What you'll find on Coloring Kids

Everything here comes in three forms, and all three are free. There are 320 printable coloring pages you can browse one at a time, each with its own downloadable PDF. There are 127 complete coloring books — between 13 and 27 pages each, in a single PDF — if you would rather print a whole set at once. And every page can be coloured on screen in our free online coloring tool, with a fill bucket, a brush, an eraser, undo and redo. Between the single pages and the books that is 2,419 coloring sheets, sorted into 23 categories and 15 themed collections.

There is no account to create, no email to hand over and nothing to pay at any point. Every PDF is sized for US Letter and prints correctly on A4 if you set your printer to “fit to page”. Most sheets suit children aged 3 to 12 — bold, simple outlines for the youngest, finer line work for older children who want something that takes a while.

You are welcome to print as many copies as you need for a home, a classroom, a library or a church group; the only thing the licence rules out is reselling them.

Why coloring is worth the time

Colouring is one of the few activities that is genuinely absorbing for a child and genuinely useful at the same time. Holding a crayon builds the hand strength that handwriting later depends on; staying inside a line trains the same control; and choosing what goes where is a small, low-stakes decision a child gets to make entirely on their own.

• Pre-writing skills: gripping a crayon, marker or pencil builds the hand and finger strength that writing needs later.
• Screen-free time: a real, tactile activity that does not need a device and does not end with a battery going flat.
• Winding down: the repetitive, unhurried motion helps children settle after a busy day — which is much the same reason adults have taken it up.
• Something finished: a coloured page is a completed thing a child made, which is worth more to them than it looks.
